| We were shocked and grieved at the passing of member Merrill Kidd on April 8, 2003. Representatives of Mountaineer Woodturners attended the funeral. |
| We were also stunned to hear that Paul Payne was seriously injured in a riding mower or tractor accident at his home around the first of April. He is still in very serious condition with a fractured neck among other things. |
We are happy that TK was back with us at this meeting. He and his wife have had a string of health problems.
On a happier note, Gay Siegrist has announced that he and Melody are to be married Saturday, May 24 at 7:30 at the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Parkersburg. Everyone is invited.
I was not able to attend the meeting, so this newsletter is brought to you thanks to the notes and photos of Dave Mays. Thanks a lot Dave!
Business
Our president Dave Mays presided over the meeting, which started at 11:00 am.
There were 12 members attending. There was one visitor, Bill Noce, a member of Northcoast Turners, in the Cleveland area.
The treasurer's report shows $2599 in the treasury.
We have a new CD on Woodturning by Steven D. Russell for the library.
The next meeting, on May 10th, will feature Tom McColley, co-owner of Poplar Forest Craft Center in Flatwoods. During the morning, he will demo turning a green wood hollow vessel. After lunch he will talk on developing the business aspect of woodturning - how to market your work.

There was no program for this meeting. Instead, everyone came early and spent their money at the Woodcraft sale.
Turning 2003
The Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild has announced their bi-annual symposium to be held October 17, 18, and 19, 2003.
This year apparently they are not mailing information, but have just made a few brochures available to the local AAW sections (I assume to save money). So, I have a couple of the brochures and will be glad to mail one to anyone interested. Let me know.
The 2001 symposium was very much enjoyed by the three of us who went. I highly recommend it.
Notes
Joe Smith was able to drop off the totem at Arrowmont about March 25. At that time five others were already there and they hoped to get nine others soon. Mary said it was more professional looking than the others there, and we know that Mary in a really good judge of turnings!
Woodcraft now has a new website: woodcraftauction.com. Some members have been contacted about items to sell - Mike Wade and Jim Morrison.
The Newsletter will be sent by email to those members who have given me their email address. This medium will contain an HTML document in which I have included links to pictures of the "Show and Tell" items as well as a link to the website. Those who do not have email addresses listed with me will receive the usual hardcopy newsletter by US snailmail. Any others who wish a newsletter by mail should let me know.
The Newsletter with pictures is also available on the website.
