Picnic
We had a great picnic. About 30 persons were present for wonderful food and conversations. The weather was kind to us: it was not even hot or wet! We want to thank Dave Mays for all the work he put into making this picnic a real success!
We were pleased to have TK and his wife back with us.
We were happy to hear that Paul Payne was to be going home from the hospital soon. Paul and his wife renewed their wedding vows (50th) while at the hospital.
NEXT REGULAR MEETING September 13, 2002 Linda VanGehuchten Cedar Lakes |
Business
Business was postponed until the September meeting.
Topics, which will be taken up at that meeting, are:
Our president has appointed a nomination committee for new club officers. We will plan to have the election at the October meeting, in order to give the incoming officers time to prepare a program for the next year.
Show and Tell
You will have to forgive various omissions and errors, as I was enjoying the food and company.
| Dave Jones brought the holey spaulted Maple bowl that won a red ribbon at the Arts and Craft Fair. | |
| He had a small Oak vase with a "CA glue finish". | |
| There was a wonderful spaulted Oak hollowform with an Ebony rim. | |
| Dave also brought a nice vase with stopper, | |
| and a natural edged bowl (Osage Orange I think). | |
| John Crede showed us a Maple bowl with matching candlesticks | |
| and one of his wonderful inlaid bowls. I believe it was Gum inlaid with Holly. | |
| Tom Schottle brought in some of his wonderful Alabaster turnings. He showed us the pink Alabaster bowl that had won a blue ribbon at the Arts and Craft Fair. | |
| He also had a white Alabaster bowl | |
| and a multicolored Alabaster vase. All of the Alabaster turnings were rimmed with (I think) Walnut. | |
| Tom also had a wooden bowl he had turned using a vacuum chuck. | |
| Jim Morrison brought along a very nice bowl turned from a large burl. | |
| Jim also brought the artwork he had made from Steel on a Rosewood base. | |
| Dave Shombert brought one of his fine segmented bowls. | |
| Warnie Lore brought a large Sycamore plate | |
| and a nice Chestnut vase. | |
| He showed us the hollowing tool and a texturing tool he made and used on the vase. | |
| Paul Weinberger described some of the restoration work going on at the old Weston hospital. He showed us a Mahogany newel post he had made as part of that work. | |
| Joe Smith brought some of his fabulous natural-edged bowls. Three bowls were all from one Maple burl. Each was really nice on its own, | |
| but the three bowls as a "nest" was a real treasure. | |
| He also had three other bowls from Maple, which I really can not even describe. You had to be there. | |
