Picnic

We had another great picnic. About 25 persons were present. There was wonderful food and conversation. The weather was appropriate for a picnic: it was not too hot with a little breeze.

Once again we want to thank Joe and Mary Smith for all the work they put into making this picnic a success!

Mountain State Arts & Craft Fair

Our organization and its members earned a bunch of ribbons and awards this year.

Joe Smith won a first place Award of Excellence for his Yew Root bowl. This bowl was not turned as thin as Joe usually turns them. Due to all the air he was turning and also the stones in the root, he was running scared.

Tom Schottle won a first place Award of Excellence for his wonderful plate.

John Crede won a second place Award of Excellence for his bowl turned from Plywood.

Joe Smith was awarded Showperson of the Day.

The Mountaineer Woodturners booth was awarded a first place Demonstrators Award. Demonstrators were John Crede and Byron Young.

Dave Jones also entered a wonderful bowl in the competition.

Congratulations to you all!

Show and Tell

Tom Schottle showed us his prize winning plate.
Joe Smith showed us his prize winning Yew Bowl.
John Crede showed us his prize winning bowl.
Byron Young brought an attractive large Maple salad bowl. It was finished with salad bowl finish.
He also had a nice very-thin-stemmed goblet with a hidden ring. This was inspired by Jimmy Clews.
Dave Jones brought in a couple of attractive Cedar bowls.

He also showed us a lidded bowl turned from Oak.
Warnie Lore brought in a bunch of really nice Christmas tree ornaments. He also had a pepper mill from Cedar. The top kept splitting each time he tried to hollow it with a Forstner bit. On the fourth try he finally had to drill it all the way through and put a cover on the top of the hole.
