Show and Tell

Tom Schottle brought in several square and winged bowls following methods of Jamie Donaldson, who was the demonstrator at the November meeting. Tom had three really nice "square bowls"
and a small Maple "winged bowl".
Tom also had a wonderful shallow natural-edge bowl from Sassafras
and a nice large platter from cherry. He showed us what would have been a bowl. This blank blew up due to major inclusion of bark which was not early apparent.

Bill Morris showed us what started out to be a square bowl. After a catch the design was changed and all the corners were removed.

Chris Mercer brought in an attractive shallow natural-edge bowl from a Maple burl.
He also had a small bowl, I believe from the same source.

Dave Jones showed us a pretty vase made from a Walnut crotch.

Marvin Farber brought a fine large bowl he had turned from submerged Bull Pine (Virginia Pine).
Delbert McCartney had one of his fine segmented dishes, for which he is noted.
Bill McKay showed us a couple of attractive vases turned from Maple Burls.

He also had an attractive bowl turned from a different burl.

Jerry Smith brought in a couple of his fine turned hats.

Joe Smith was wearing a nice cap he had turned.

Bob Fleming brought in a lidded dish made by Richard Raffin, to show how the master does it.
Bob also brought in a Cherry lamp
and a lidded dish both of a segmented construction he had turned in the early 1970’s.

Program

Bob Fleming presented a video on threaded lidded boxed by Bonnie Klein. After lunch Bob tried to demonstrate some of the finer points, but the General lathe broke down.

Instead of trying to add photos of all the show and tell items to the members’ gallery, I will rely on photos sent in by the members. So please send me pictures of your work so that I can add it to the gallery.
