Shop Tips

Bill Morris gave our monthly Shop Tip. He showed a nifty gouge and tool holder made from PVC pipe, with a wall rack.

Bill also showed us inserts he had made for the Wolverine jig, to allow grinding at various pre-set angles.

These were really neat. I can not describe them; you would have to have been there.

Next month Dave Jones will give us a Shop Tip.

Show and Tell

There was a nice showing of Show & Tell items
Delbert McCartney brought in a really nice lidded segmented vase from Cherry
Bill McKay showed us a natural edge bowl from Maple. He had used Minwax wood hardener on it, with good success. Bill also had a very nice footed bowl from perhaps Butternut or Chestnut.

Dave Jones brought in a couple of neat covered vases turned from Banksia pods.

Tom Schottle brought in an attractive bowl turned from the PEG-treated round blanks.
U.K. Dawson showed us an attractive Cherry plate he had turned.
Jerry Smith brought in a wonderful footed vase.
Clarence Clarkson had nice vase turned from a Banksia pod.
He also showed us a very attractive hollowform from Box Elder and Cherry,
and nice vase from Walnut.

Clarence described the Warther carving museum in Dover,Ohio. It is a must see! Check out the website, http://www.warthers.com .

He brought in a copy of "Tumult on the Mountains" by Roy Clarkson, a relative. This book is a classic about logging in West Virginia up until about 1920, especially in the Cass, WV, area.

Clarence also showed a Walnut bowl partially turned by Ray Key, and a book and candlestick boxed set by Rude Olsonik.
