Show and Tell
| Jerry Smith
turned a hat worn by his brother Joe. The hat rim dried out so
quickly that before it could be finished it split. Some suggested
that it was Joe’s head that did it. |
| Charlie Brown
brought a beautiful weedpot turned from Flame Wood (?). |
| David Gaines
showed us a real nice set of 4 small bowls turned from Cherry (?) on
his mini lathe. |
| Dave Jones
brought in an Oak bowl |
and Oak tool handle which were treated
with Black Cesso (?) which fills the pores in the grain to give the
wood a real interesting appearance. |
| Dave also had a Cherry vase turned from a
crotch |
and an attractive Cherry lidded box with a
mint quarter set into the lid. Neat idea. |
| Jim Morrison
brought in a wonderful large segmented salad bowl from Cherry. He
had made a total of 3 of them. |
He also had a neat large bowl turned from
some sort of a shaping block formerly used in the phone business.
| Jim showed us one of the hooked tools he
was to demonstrate making; this was set into a beautiful Maple
handle. |
| Bill Morris
was turning a bowl with a skew, so he has nothing to show! |
| Bill McKay
had a couple of nice natural edge bowls, one from a Maple burl
and the other from a Walnut burl.
| He also had an attractive third bowl from
a burl. |
| Bob Lett
showed us a really nice large cherry bowl he had turned. |
| Gary Gibbs
showed us how scrap cut off pieces could be made into attractive
natural edge bookends. |
| Byron Young
brought in a couple of really nice hollowed vessels.
One was colored with an aniline dye. |
Program
As usual, Jim Morrison gave a great
demonstration. He showed how to make a special "Alan Lacer" Hooked Cutter, and
then used the tool he had made to demonstrate end grain hollowing.
