Shop Tips

Dave Jones showed us how he makes sanding disks. He cuts them from kneeling pads (color-coded according to grit), and rolls of adhesive backed sandpaper from Lowes.

Jim Meyer showed us how he makes inexpensive faceplates and sanding disks, starting with large appropriate sized hex nuts. These hex nuts can be welded to a steel plate for faceplates, or imbedded in wooden disks for a sanding disks.

Next month Jim Morrison will give us a Shop Tip.

Show and Tell

Jim Morrison brought in three beautiful large bowls he had turned from spaulted Maple.

He also had one of his famous segmented vases from Maple and Holly.

Dave Shombert showed us a remarkable segmented vase he had made from Maple and Ebony. Several of his segmented turnings are presently on exhibit (http://www.mtn-laurel.com/newexhibits.htm) at the Mountain Laurel Gallery in Berkeley Springs, WV.
Dave Jones brought in a Chestnut vase
and a nice cheese board turned from a commode seat cover. He says the cover had not been previously used.
Warnie Lore showed us an attractive Christmas tree ornament he had made from Ash and Cherry.

a winged bowl from Maple,
and a couple green Maple bowls.

He also had a start of a bowl from Cedar.

Jerry Smith had three of his famous wonderful mini-hats.
Byron Young brought in two very nice lidded dishes from Maple and Walnut.

Harry Newman brought in a display case of very attractive pens.
He also showed us the blanks from which they were turned.
Ron Jones showed us two covered dishes, one from Cherry
 and the other from Walnut.
He also had a neat pencil holder/paper clip holder from Cedar.
Wayne Schoolcraft had a remarkable lighthouse from Walnut. This was the first thing he had turned!
Bill Morris brought in a number of items, and I have to apologize for not getting very good photos of them. Bill had a nice Apple and Walnut covered dish, a nice "inside-outside" vase,
and a couple of attractive small Cherry dishes,
He had made a vase and candleholder from Cherry and Walnut, and a couple of real nice weed-pots.
