Our president, Joe Smith presided over
the meeting.
There were only 16 persons present,
probably due to the snowstorm.

Business
- E.J. Ulland reported that there is presently $3065
in the treasury.
- Tom proposed that we set up a procedure to follow
in case a meeting needs to be cancelled. The secretary will set up a system
so that, once the president decides to re-schedule a meeting, members will
be notified either by email or phone.
- We were reminded that Mountaineer Woodturners is
20 years old this year.
- Tom reported that we have been awarded the AAW
grant for the A/V system.
- E.J. moved that Joe Smith be in charge of
investigating a video projector. The motion passed.
- It was also moved and passed that Tom Schottle be
given permission to investigate and buy lights for the lathe.
Show and Tell

showed us a set of gouge profile set-up tools,
for a sharpening jig, from Craft Supplies called
Profile-Pro. |

Tom also had some mirrored coasters he had
made according to an article in a recent edition of the AAW Journal. |

showed us a very attractive vase from African Mahogany,

a tall green stained Maple vase,

| a nice lidded box, |
 |

and a wonderful large bowl from Chinese
Elm. |
| Jim Withee
brought in a pen turned from Acrylic

 |
and a very nice little Cherry (?) bowl. He
asked people’s opinion whether the holes should have been filled,
which started an interesting and useful discussion. |

brought in a beautiful large Walnut bowl. |

| Jim Morrison
had three wonderful bowls; one was from Holly |
 |
| and the other two were from (I think)
Plum. |

Program
The storm prevented John Jordan from being
here, so Joe Smith filled in with a great demonstration of some basics of bowl
turning. He turned some bowls from burls and a crotch.
Which reminds me, we promised not to tell
about Joe’s "Jerry" stories.

Don’t forget the
AAW 2008 National Symposium
in Richmond, VA, June 20-22, 2008. Byron Young reports that available
lodging is getting hard to find.

Tom informed us that there is a
discount this month at Craft Supplies.

Some turning symposia of note coming
up are:
- The
Utah Woodturning Symposium which has moved to Utah Valley State
College in Orem, Utah. From my experience, this is a really well run
symposium.
The Newsletter will be sent by e-mail to
those members who have given me their email address. This medium will
contain an HTML document in which I have included links to pictures of the
"Show and Tell" items as well as a link to the website. Those who do not
have e-mail addresses listed with me will receive the usual hardcopy
newsletter by US snailmail. Any others who wish a newsletter by mail should
let me know.
Please send me pictures of your work so that I can
add it to the gallery.
